Smc Reflection
During my Social Media Campaign I have learned many new things regarding the problem that I chose in the bushmeat trade. First off, there is a glaring reality that some cities in Africa rely on bushmeat for their main source of food. Governments surrounding these cities have not found an alternative to combating this issue, whether it is to solve hunger or to provide alternative economic solutions to these cities. Another alarming issue about the bushmeat trade is the transmission of diseases when meat is consumed, supposedly Ebola and the Corona virus have come from illegal wildlife consumption. Another concerning issue linking chimpanzees to the bushmeat trade is that their species's population is worst affected due to chimpanzee mothers being able to give birth once every 5 years. Solutions to the problem included fighting to ban the bushmeat trade all over the world, targeting areas that are consuming the most meat, offering alternatives to the bushmeat trade, and governments implementing new strategies and policies to slow down the trade. The organizations that I learned about were Ape Alliance, which has been fighting the bushmeat crisis since 1998. They definitely were passionate on the subject and I can definitely use the information they have for my essay. The other organization I followed was the World wildlife Fund and they also had good information on the bushmeat crisis. I believe my two best tweets were about the issues concerning the bushmeat crisis, like how the chimpanzee population are one of the most affected due to their mothers birthing rate. The next best tweet was about how the World Wildlife Fund finds way in combating the trade of chimpanzees by enforcing laws and monitoring their population. My infographic was about the informing about the issues linked towards the bushmeat crisis.
Making Arguments
Through analyzing the argumentative texts and videos I learned new techniques to incorporate in my essay. Fist off the way they presented their questions to the audience in a scholarly tone could be taken into account. Another interesting part of analyzing the videos was their use of pathos, logos, and ethos. I plan to use all three in my essay as there is no reason not to use one or the other. I could use some content on speciesism and how animals are similar to humans and how we should reconsider treating them.
Peer Review
For my peer reviews I reviewed Yue Liu's paper and Alejandra Catherine Rodas's paper. For Yue Liu's paper I mentioned how she can introduce the authors better and needed to that her paper was a literature review. For Alejandra's paper I mentioned how she could have also introduced the authors better and could have went more in depth in summarizing her third source in the Big 3. Overall both essays were well done. The best advice I got was from Alejandra stating that I should end the body paragraphs on why this research is important for chimpanzee behavior. Also some minor organizational things were mentioned as well.
